On-trend…
with Nicky Hambleton-Jones

Nicky Hambleton-Jones is bang on trend as she relaxes after lunch at The Trafford Centre.

She looks stunning in crisp, white, wide-leg jeans, wedge sandals from Moda in Pele, and a green-accented silk floral top from Mango, with wide-cut bell sleeves.

South African Nicky epitomises the fresh spring palette that's filtered down from the catwalk to the shop windows. It's no surprise that she knows her gear - as presenter of Channel 4's 10 Years Younger, people look to her for inspiration. She takes these things seriously.

'The trends at the moment are easy to get into, with either a full outfit, or just one signature piece that will make a look work,” she says, immediately warming to her theme.

At the moment, florals are flooding back - from tiny, feminine sprig patterns to big and bold designs. Floral embellishments are also on shoes, bags and other accessories - and that's a lovely way to give an old outfit a fresh feel.”

The UK’s first lady of fashion, famous for her stunning designer spectacles, has seen a nautical look and a colonial look filter to the high streets.

'The nautical trend is big, yes. But that can mean white with red, and white with green, as well as the traditional white with blue

The move is away from skinny jeans and dark, heavy dyes. If you're in jeans, make them washed denim, lighter and brighter than they have been of late.

'There's also a very attractive safari element moving in, colonial styling of animal prints and slouchy shorts or trousers, with a safari jacket. You can find pieces here at The Trafford Centre at H&M,  Monsoon and Stella McCartney. And the tribal theme is on the high street as seen in in the lovely chunky, wooden bracelets that are on the accessories stands, perhaps going over a kaftan and jeans combination, with sandals.”

Finally, I ask Nicky how she’s taking to all the fame that TV has brought. Has she been recognised while out on the Malls?

‘I get recognised all the time, yes! And in my job it’s essential that I can still hit the shops for product research. Sometimes I go incognito – but whereas other famous people put glasses on, I have to take them off!’
